Freelance Photographer and multi media artist specializing in Western Lifestyle and the ancient technique of encaustic painting where I create pieces of art using many layers of hot beeswax, earthy pigments and fire on a birch panel I’ve prepared using a Sho Sugi Ban process burned edge. This wax technique results in a depth and luminous translucency that creates a beautifully unique, one of a kind piece of fine art. I absolutely love this work.
Encaustic painting is an ancient technique of using molten beeswax mixed with dammar resin (crystallized tree sap). Encaustic is a Greek word meaning “to heat or burn in” (enkaustikos).
I love to experiment with this process and combine it with other techniques and sometimes my own photographs to create unique custom art.
Beeswax takes about 18 months to cure and does not need to be protected with varnish or glass.
Beeswax is impervious to moisture and will not yellow, darken or mold. It is the most durable of all paints.
I’m happy to do Photo Encaustic commissioned work. Your photo or mine mounted on a cradled wood board and fused with clear encaustic paint (molten beeswax and dammar tree resin). This creates a beautiful texture with depth and luminosity over the photo that can’t be achieved with any other process.
