Painting with Fire. This mixed media piece includes molten wax, tree resin, horse hair, shellac burn, earthy pigments.

Christy Dunn is an encaustic artist located in the mesmerizing Methow Valley. Encaustic Painting is the ancient technique of painting with hot beeswax, pigments and fire on a birch panel. This technique results in a depth and luminous translucency that creates a beautifully unique, one of a kind, earthy piece of fine art.

Encaustic painting is a technical and artist process that’s combines layers of molten beeswax mixed with dammar resin (crystallized tree sap). Encaustic is a Greek word meaning “to heat or burn in” (enkaustikos)

Christy experiments with this precess and combines it with other techniques and sometimes uses her her photographs to create unique custom art.

Beeswax is imperious to moisture and will not yellow, darken or mold. It is the most durable of all paints.
